Papa sa Basilica

Christian period is a period where Godliness was used as the subject matter for art. Churches with sculptures of bible figures from the Old Testament to the New Testament were abundant during this period. They all fascinate me since I was once a knight of the altar who serves for God. I used to use also bible figures as my subject matter during those days since I was so intact to God. The Churches were so detailed that it would actually make you look for too long just to satisfy your eye with those designs. If I would be given a chance to visit one church during the Christian period, it would be the St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy. I have an aunt in France and she once visited the St. Peter's Basilica. She told me many wonderful things about it and it really made an impact on me. I became more connected to my duty as a knight of the altar. Years passed and it's still in me wondering how much more beauty would it look like if I see it personally. Entering doors with intricate designs from the lower part to the upper part of the door would be a memorable experience. Looking at the paintings of different bible figures on the ceiling.

Sculpture was once my dream life goal since I find it amusing and challenging. I want to have my own sculpture and this period also fascinated me and gave me an idea of doing my own sculpture in the near future. Their works were very detailed. From the wave of the hair to the facial expression of each sculpture to the folds of the clothes worn are very exact. They are more to realistic style because they want to show how each one from the bible figures looks like during their times. These sculptures can be seen also in St. Peter's Basilica. They were all been crafted carefully and with devotion to art and to God that's why they were able to create these magnificent sculptures. Paintings were also noticed during the Christian period. Their subject matters are mostly about God during that time. Wall paintings are also famous especially inside the churches. Different paintings depicting different occasions are seen here. All of them are magnificent and should be well preserved for the other generation to see the beauty of the remaining of Christian Period.

DISCObolus of Myron

Classical art is one of my favourite art styles. Why? Besides from pottery, it emphasizes human figures wherein it looks like a real person being covered in marble. We all know that, we, humans are the most precious artworks here in the world. Our body is so complex that a slight change in our movements can change everything. There are other things that could be used as our subject matter but why our own body? For me, it will question you one thing. Which one do you use more, your left hemisphere or your right hemisphere? Our body has a lot of details to be considered mostly if a person has a muscular body where a lot of bumps would be seen. Our brain tends to calculate how wide an arc would be or the measurement of one eye to the other. It interests me more when it's more complicated. People are different from each other. They might not be that interested to the human figure. An example of famous sculptures with a human figure as a subject matter is the Discobolus of Myron from the classical era.

The first time I saw the Discobolus of Myron, I was attracted to it like I want to do my own sculpture inspired by that. It was very detailed if I'm to be asked. Why? Because the artist was able to portray what a real athlete looks like during a game. The muscles were well toned. It was the first thing that I noticed. The muscular body are well proportioned to a real body of an athlete. The face also is idealistic since it seemed to be real. One thing that amazed me to much was the veins running through the muscles of the sculpture. As a whole, it's perfect for me. Although studies about art during that time were not even that common, they managed to create a human-like sculpture. It made me appreciate it more by the instruments or tools used. Even though they were not that futuristic like what people now use to sculpt things, the managed to make their own tools.

KabaYOU

Before pencil and paper even existed, drawings on walls already spread through different certain locations; European part is abundant with this type of art. Picture above is an example of a cave painting that will make you question yourself why is it even painted. Pigments used during those times could be gathered within their territory. Examples of this are green pigments were obtained through crushing leaves or different natural things with a distinct hue of green. Red could be obtained like how green is obtained, by using natural things with a distinct hue of red. There are different theories that were explained by experts. These theories often intrigue people who were able to view this kind of art. The first theory said that it was painted by natives to record what they see during their rituals where they start going into trance. It is an event was an individual would be possessed by a spiritual being and would be able to see things that no one could see. Past, present and future are included here. It also includes talking to their heavenly god and people who passed away even before an individual existed. Second theory talks about people tend to record things that are happening during their everyday living but no one knows who it is. There are a lot of theories about it but one thing is for sure, this is an example of art that must be preserved for future purpose and for people to view in the future.

This art work is very impressive in my point of view. It fascinates me like other artists view it. I accept the fact that during that time, art is still being formed that is why this looks like a figurative form of art. The way it was painted would be noticed fast since you would see it like an ancient art style of painting wherein it really is. It has this distinct style that will make you take a glimpse from it and then started to look at it like it's deceiving you. Few are left since it was made a very long time ago which means that most of its kind is already destroyed by nature or even by us, humans. During their time, their subject matters are about events mostly that are why viewing this kind of painting will give you a story-telling like of experience. If I'll be given a chance to see one of these types of artworks, I'll make sure that I'll be studying it to further more the theory behind it. For other's point of view, this is just a 'something' but what they don't know is that before art style of today even emerges, this types were our backbone for today's success. This should be continuously taken care. If these artworks were not even discovered, we'll be losing half our history. Although its style is not that complicated, it must be well respected.
